WHS Equity Team
Mission Statement
The Wethersfield Equity Team acknowledges that there are racial inequalities and inherent biases that negatively impact Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). We are committed to listen, learn, take action, and empower others to create a school community where people are safe, acknowledged, accepted, and supported.

History of the WHS Equity Team
In the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020, the rise in student activism, and the disproportionately negative impact of COVID on the BIPOC community, Wethersfield High School formed an eight-person equity team to engage in antiracist work and affect change. In collaboration with an equity scholar/consultant, we created a mission/vision statement to guide our work with a primary focus on promoting awareness and information related to systemic inequities that are present within our community and beyond. Since the inception of the group we have engaged in learning about systemic racism and its impact throughout history, held various book clubs and discussed implications, provided several professional development opportunities to the WHS staff, and collaborated with various groups such as the Wethersfield Steering Committee, the Social Justice Coalition, the WHS student club, Brothers and Sisters United (BSU), People Empowering People, and the WHS instructional team. We are excited about this work and look forward to the opportunity to partner with you as WHS becomes a more equitable place.
